you see ohio, florida, colorado. obama's lead is massive. obama built the largest grassroots organization that politics saw in '08 and after he won he continued to build it. this can make a difference of two points and in a close race like this it can make all the difference in '08. it gave obama some already. that's not the situation in this case. people that have been to the ground offices say the obama offices are all about obamament the romney offices are rnc offices and not always all about romney. that leads a conservative like joe scarborough to worry about what's happening that the obama offices are building this unparalleled turnout machine and the great irony that scarborough writes for the romney camp is their candidate drirch by data and numbers his entire life is relying on the most unpredi unpredictable force of all, human emotion, to pull him over the top. i don't understand why romney and the gop have allowed this to happen? >> if it were just about having offices, obama would be in a clear lead in states like florida he's no

president obama probably made the right call to come back. it wouldn't look good if he continued with that event down in florida if people are pounded by rain. all attention will be on this storm for a while, especially on the east coast, so he has a chance to get out there and be in front of the cam ras. we don't want to talk aboutfall politics in a natural disaster, but it will give him a chance to respond and look presidential. >> mitt romney had to cancel three events in virginia. the latest poll out of the state. he's closing the gap, although the president still has a four-point lead. how do you proceed if you're mitt romney? he doesn't have an official role, so is whatever he does open to criticism, or is it -- do you even morph through a political lens? where does mitt romney play through all of this. >> he can campaign in states not adversely affected by the storm. he can stay in ohio. i don't think there was any downside to spend more time in ohio and put in homilies in the speech how he was thinking of others in swing states. the d

bill clinton in florida, president obama was supposed to do that event and flew back here and we heard from him. mitt romney will stay off the campaign trail until sort of this thing passes through and we get the assessment of the damage and that's the other thing. let's say wednesday they start resuming their schedule. there's the possibility they'll be significant power outages and damage all the way through this week maybe into next week. when we say into next week tuesday is the election. >> break this down. >> yeah. >> the president just spoke from the briefing room. this was the president who was talking about sandy and was asked about the election and said right now he's got to focus on, you have power outages and as he pointed out this is a big storm. the power outages could last, battleground states, north carolina, virginia, and certainly new hampshire, but now is pennsylvania in play? one of the super pacs, the karl rove super pac putting $2 million into pennsylvania. i was on a conference call with jim mess siena and jafds axelrod saying that's a bluff, that pennsylvania is

former president clinton here in florida. he was also down in ohio along with vice president biden, first lady michelle obama making two stops in iowa today. all of them referencing that their thoughts are with the folks who are being impacted by this storm. but they went on without president obama who had to go back to the white house and essentially manage this very serious storm system that is moving towards the east coast. of course, there are pros and cons to this from the perspective that the election is just around the corner. on the one hand, president obama had to cancel a number of his events today. on the other hand, he gets to sort of look presidential. you heard him not really wade into that discussion though when he was asked about it. he essentially said my thoughts are not with the election right now. the bottom line is everything has the potential to become political so there are a lot of eyes watching how the president manages the storm and how mitt romney is going to respond to the storm. mitt romney did at
